Twelve Verse Renga

We’re back! I know, I know, it’s about time. If you’ve forgotten how this works, check out the aptly named How This Works and About Renga pages in the sidebar. Now start writing some renga!
(This time we have Gabrielle to thank for starting us off.)

gray sky
yellow lamplight
shining on my book

mere letters on paper
creating stories

stories come to live
as companions in my head
chiselled from the mist

friends I’ve never met
treasured moments that never happened

lonely with my dreams
waiting for my someday friend
this time maybe real

a hand to touch mine
a heart to know mine

laughing as one
thoughts intertwined
it wasn’t even that funny

fleeting moments twined to life
with echoes of laughter

rolling away
watching them go
wanting these moments back

rolling on to eternity
waiting for us there

today just a glimpse
of the forever light
shines through the cracks

Hands warmed by the light
turn to grip the sword

Okay, I’m out of practice with this. Here goes:

    mere letters on paper
    creating stories

Very nice, Raquel. I like it. Oh, and I never said how much I liked your haiku, Gaby. I can picture you curled up on a gray day with a cup of tea reading a good book. Lovely image.

Thanks. :-) I feel like I’m out of practice too, but I like how our renga’s going so far.

Well, I feel like I killed this renga since I was the last person to add to it. Did I say something wrong? Or is it my breath?

Ooh, you mean I could blame you that I got stuck for ideas? It’s not my fault anymore! :-)
I’ve been meaning to work on this, but what with traveling and life not having any ideas for the next verse I just haven’t done it. Maybe we can convince some more people to come help us out. Or at least poke Gabrielle…

So I know I added the last stanza, but we’re rather stuck so unless anyone has any objections, here’s a new (albeit somewhat silly)haiku.

    laughing as one
    thoughts intertwined
    it wasn’t even that funny

    Aww. That’s so sweet…

I know it’s bending the rules to have you do two in a row, but I appreciate it. Hopefully it will get the rest of us unstuck. I’ll probably post something soon if Gabrielle doesn’t beat me to it.

It’s another one where the haiku worked better in my head, but I think this will do. Please let me know if it just doesn’t make any sense.

    fleeting moments twined to life
    with echoes of laughter

Okay, here’s my attempt. I feel like I just brought the glee level way down, but it’s what I got.

    Rolling away
    Watching them go
    Wanting these moments back

    rolling on to eternity

    today just a glimpse
    of the forever light
    shines through the cracks

    Just one verse left!

  • 16    Gabrielle // Nov 30, 2007 at 11:03 am

    Shine on my face
    Until forever

    Or

I want to say something like

Warm your hands in the light
    Then pick up your sword

but I can’t quite get it to do what I want it to. It’s too clunky right now. If anyone can make it work I’d be delighted.

    How about:

    Hands warmed by the light
    turn to grip the sword

  • 18    Raquel // Dec 3, 2007 at 10:24 am

I like it! Shall we take a vote before I make it official? :-)

  • 19    Gabrielle // Dec 7, 2007 at 11:12 am

Well I like it. The votes are all in.

  • 20    Raquel // Dec 7, 2007 at 11:24 am

Alright, it’s official. Thus endeth the renga.

  • 21    Adiel // Dec 8, 2007 at 10:38 am

I love how this renga turned out! It’s really too spiffy for words the way it begins and ends with light, but two very different lights. We done good, ladies. Now, if only we could get more people to join us. Hmmm, whom should I nag?
